Brazil
From Buenos Aires we headed to Iguazu Falls. These waterfalls are on the border of Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay. We stayed on the Argentina side in a really nice palce called Puerto Iguazu. The weather was so hot and most days it was well in the 30's!
These falls are really spectacular and the rain forest surrounding them is beautiful too. We have never been to Niagra falls but Iguazu falls are suppose to be more spectacular! We didn't bother with a tour and just did the backpacker day out by getting the bus there ourselves and following the map around the falls and park. We spent most of the day admiring wonderful scenery and views. It was definitely worth a visit.
We decided that the long bus journeys were too much for us so instead we took a two hour flight to Rio de Janeiro rather than a 22 hour bus journey. We had eight nights here which has been one of our longer stops. We have enjoyed it here although it rained for three of the days. Typical that the day we had booked our city tour it rained all day and the views were non existant. We went up Cordovado hill to see the Christ the Redeemer statue but all we could see was the outline as he was covered in mist! Same for the Sugar Loaf!
It did brighten up for the last few days and we were able to spend some time relaxing on Copacabana beach. It's a hard life I know, sitting on a beach in the middle of December with temps in the low thirties! We also took a stroll to Ipanema beach and walked around the well known Sunday market. The heat got too much for us and we had to take shelter in an Irish pub and watch the end of the Arsenal v Chelsea match. Guess who's suggestion that was!! Just like a Sunday at home.
Anyway this is our last log after five months of travelling and having a ball. It's hard to believe that it's all over but we have so many great memories. Who knows, we might have caught the travel bug and do it all again soon!
